At just 2 sq km, microscopic Monaco is teeny tiny – the second-smallest country after Vatican City – but you’ll be hugely impressed by how much is compressed into this small Mediterranean enclave. Monaco is primarily a playground for the rich, with its famous Monte Carlo Casino and Porsche-filled parking lot. In an afternoon, you can soak up its opulence, starting with the superyachts bobbing in the marina before heading to the old town to see the principality's royal palace.

Given its location, Monaco experiences a Mediterranean climate with warm, dry Summers and mild but wet Winters. Temperatures tend to reach their lowest in January and February, with lows of 6°C (42.8°F) not uncommon — July and August can see temperatures reach up to 27°C (80.6°F). Expect the most rainfall from September to February.
While there’s no bad time to visit Monaco, Spring (March to May) and Autumn (September to November) tend to be the best times to visit. The weather is pleasant and not too hot, and there are fewer crowds compared to the Summer months. You’ll also be able to go to prestigious events like the Monaco Yacht Show and the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters during these time periods.
Summer (June to August) is also a good time to visit if you’re looking for the best weather — just be aware that prices may rise during this time due to the influx of tourists.
While conventions can vary from country to country, tipping is customary in Europe. A general rule is 10% of the bill for wait staff, and a smaller amount (€1 or €2) for other service providers.
Tipping is an expected, though not compulsory, component of your tour programme, and an expression of satisfaction with the people who have assisted you on your tour. There are several times during the trip where there is opportunity to tip the local guides. You may do this individually, or your CEO will offer to collect the money and tip as a group. Recommendations for tipping local guides would range from €3 to €5 per day, depending on the quality and length of the service. Ask your CEO for specific recommendations based on the circumstances and culture.
At the end of each trip, if you felt your G Adventures CEO did an outstanding job, tipping is expected and appreciated. The precise amount is a personal preference, however €30 to €40 per person, per week can be used as a guideline.
Monaco has excellent internet access — some of the best in the world in fact. You’ll be able to access free Wi-Fi in many public places like restaurants, hotels, libraries, stations and cafes — and there’s fantastic 4 and 5G here too. Please note that if you’re using data on your phone from outside the EU, you may be subject to roaming charges. Check with your network provider before you travel.
Yes — there are plenty of ATMs in Monaco. You’ll find them in various locations, especially near banks, tourist spots, and shopping areas — check with your bank for withdrawal fees. Most of them accept major networks like Mastercard and Visa, though you should be aware that cards like American Express may not be accepted. Plan accordingly.

In general, Monaco can be considered very LGBTQ+-friendly. There are plenty of LGBTQ+ bars and clubs here, though same-sex marriage still isn’t legal currently.

French is the official language of Monaco, and it’s spoken in the government, in business, and in daily life too. Other languages spoken here include Italian, English, and Monégasque — a dialect of Ligurian which is the traditional national language.
Yes, you can drink tap water all over Monaco as a general rule. We recommend you bring a reusable water bottle for environmental reasons.
Monaco is considered one of the safest places in both Europe and the wider world. It has a very low crime rate, thanks to its highly-visible police force, and there are also strict security measures in place here.
